If this is your first visit to the Search page, then please start by making the selections in the Parameters section.
If you are unsure about a selection or about entering your DNA marker values, you may use the defaults provided by the SMGF.
As you search more, you will become confident in the process, and will no longer need the detailed search help.
Select Lab Standard: Use this option to select the lab standard for the values you enter. You may choose between the standards in the menu box. See Marker Standards for differences in standards. The search engine will automatically make the necessary conversions for you. As you switch between lab standards the marker order will change to reflect the lab's default order and the marker input values may change.
Search by Surname: Use this option to search by a surname of interest. You may choose to search by exact spelling, or by approximate spelling.
Search by match %: Use this option to search by matches rather than by surname. You may choose to view reslults that match your marker values at 100%, 85%, or 70%.
Results Display Includes: You may choose to display the country of the ancestor, all surnames in the paternal line, and/or participants with incomplete haplotype data.
Default Values: Click this button to use the database default values - the most common marker values in the database. Reset Values: Click this button to reset the input boxes to the values displayed when you last visited the Search page. Clear Values: Click this button to set all marker values to "—".
Note: DYS635 and Y-GATA-C4 are the same marker. See DYS389 for information on how we treat this marker.
You should enter your marker values exactly as they appear on your lab report. You do not need to convert values. Select "—" for any marker for which you do not have a value.
Click on Search to search for genetic matches in the Y-Database.
Browser Note: You need Javascript enabled to use the SMGF search page. You also need to enable cookies to preserve your input values between searches. If you still have problems and have an older browser, we recommend you upgrade to a later version or to the Firefox web browser. |
