The Sorenson Database currently contains more than 100,000 DNA samples and family trees from men and women around the world. The database is divided into two sections:

1) Y-Chromosome Database
2) Mitochondrial Database

Y-Chromosome Database

The Y-Chromosome Database is on-line and contains more than 39,000 Y-DNA samples and genealogies for public search. Since only males have Y-DNA, the Y-Database is ideal for surname research. Please go to the Search page to start searching, or click Y-Chromosome DNA to learn more.

Mitochondrial Database

The Mitochondrial Database is on-line and contains more than 76,000 mtDNA samples and genealogies for public search. Sons and daughters inherit their mtDNA from their mothers, making the mtDatabase ideal for maternal line research.
