The House of Romanov was the second and last imperial dynasty of Russia. The Romanovs, consisting of Tsar Nicholas II,
Tsarina Alexandra and their five children Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Alexei, are most notable for their murders at
the hands of the Bolshevik authorities. Using mtDNA testing, scientists were able to prove the remains of Nicholas,
Alexandra and three of their five children. Because two bodies were not found with the rest of the family's bodies
it was long considered that Anastasia and Alexei escaped, but in September 2007 two more bodies were found and
the mtDNA found in their remains confirms these are the two missing children of the Romanov family.
