Adding your DNA sample and genealogy to the 100,000 records in the Sorenson Database makes you a vital branch of the genetic family tree.

Searching for your roots and finding new connections through molecular genealogy is an exciting prospect.

Your contribution adds another piece to the puzzle -- DNA can help make family connections when existing genealogical records alone may not be enough.

If you can trace your ancestry back to one or more of our areas of interest, you may Contact Us to request an SMGF kit. Please include your name, mailing address, and which areas of interest are found in your family tree. There is no charge for the kit or DNA testing done for our research. The DNA and genealogy information you submit is posted in our online database in anonymous form.

Note that our project does not automatically send the test results back to our participants. If you plan to participate using the free SMGF kit and would like to receive a test report, you can unlock your test results through GeneTree anytime after you send your kit to SMGF. You are also eligible to request the unlock of your results if you have submitted a kit to SMGF in the past.

You can also choose to participate in the SMGF project when you purchase a DNA test from GeneTree. Simply sign the SMGF consent form that comes in the GeneTree kit. You do not have to show ancestors from our areas of interest when you participate through GeneTree.
